Beginning of the End

A gloomy day in more ways than what I perceive outside my window. Now I know how Charlton Heston felt at the end of Planet of the Apes when he finds the Stature of Liberty half buried in the ground and screams “You blew it up! Ah, damn you!” I truly believe that many of the people that voted for privatization at SBT never read more than a couple of pages of the Black Book – even now I don’t think they fully understand what they are signing up for. The Pace infomercial was the turning here. The same mantra of how this could only turn into a win-win windfall was repeated incessantly and loudly everyday up to the vote – and shouted out any and all voices of reason. Well neighbors I’m sure the free market is eager to get you back into its clutches. I was going to say God help us all, but I’m afraid that the only true god for many at SBT is Mammon.

  1. Cooperators who do not try to move from SBT can only hope for the best and maybe can pay the maintenance for a few years. Those seniors who are on SCRIE which will become the SBT Substitute SCRIE will be OK. Those who can not afford major increases and were fooled by years of SBR rhetoeric will get hit hard along with those who had the intelligence to see what will happen under privatization.
